First you need to understand the color of your skin – the fairness or darkness – is determined by the amount of a certain pigment, called melanin, in your skin. The melanin production in the skin decides how fair or dark our skin looks. The melanin level in the skin is dictated by several factors – heredity, exposure to sunlight, and skin disorders. Out of these, heredity is the most important factor in determining skin color.   • Soak almond overnight and grind it make a fine paste in the morning. Mix this almond paste with rose water and apply it on your skin. Let this paste stay on your skin for about half an hour before washing off with water.
  • Applying a paste of sandalwood powder or turmeric powder on your skin can also brighten your skin complexion.
  • Mix honey with milk cream, lemon juice, and almond oil. Apply this mixture on your skin and leave it for about 15 minutes before washing off with water.
  • A mixture of lemon juice and cucumber extract can also be used on your skin. This will act as a natural bleach and help lighten your skin color.
  • A mixture of yogurt and oatmeal can also help improve your skin complexion. You can also add egg yolk to it and make the mixture protein rich.
  • Use aloe-vera gel to as a shampoo to wash your face. Aloe vera gel is a natural cleanser and is also rich in nutrients.
  • Use freshly cut slices of vegetables to rub on your skin. Rubbing slices of potato, cucumber, or tomato on your skin regularly can help better your skin complexion.
  • Besides these home remedies, you should also take some care to have a proper diet. Eat lots of green fibrous vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, etc. Also, remember to drink good amount of water throughout the day as it is very important to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
